Overview
Gu 2013 assessment in Somalia was planned in conjunction with the government and partner agencies to assess the nutrition situation by quantifying the acute malnutrition and mortality in different population groups: IDPs, rural and urban. Survey tools and details about when and where the survey was planned was shared to prevent unnecessary repetition or overlap by different agencies. The mortality and nutritional data were gathered at the same time, from the same households by a survey team consisting of four people. Two of the team members made the nutrition measurements and one recorded the data and one served as the team leader.
Food security data was collected at the same time from the same population. The weight-for-height, height-for-age and weight-forage were calculated for children using the ENA for SMART and epinfo software.
