As of the end of April, Education Cluster partners have provided emergency education support to 97,164 children (49,299 girls) across 53 of Somalia's 90 districts. To expand access to quality education and create an enabling learning environment, partners have constructed 12 learning spaces and equipped and furnished 22 learning spaces. Additionally, more than 23,000 children (11,044 girls) have been provided with access to safe drinking water, and 48,396 children (24,670 girls) have benefited from individual learning materials. Furthermore, more than 25,979 children (12,421 girls) received nutritious school meals to improve their well-being and help retain them in school.
During the reporting period, the cluster conducted field missions to South West State and Jubaland State to strengthen field coordination. These missions included discussions with partners and the state ministries about the overall humanitarian funding outlook and the role education partners can play in strengthening the quality and sustainability of education provision during these challenging times. Furthermore, the cluster held a virtual meeting with national education cluster partners to explore the specific support they require to enhance children’s access to education amidst funding constraints. Partners expressed their commitment to mobilizing communities to raise resources and support children, strengthening the model of partnership with communities. The cluster has also undertaken advocacy work at global and country levels for inclusion of emergency education as a core component of humanitarian response during the "humanitarian reset".
In April, Education Cannot Wait (ECW) awarded Somalia $17.1 million to deliver the Multi-Year Resilience Programme (2025-2028), supporting 43,000 of the most vulnerable and/or crisis-affected school-aged girls and boys in Somalia (including children with disabilities) over three years. This programme is led by ADRA and will be implemented in Beletweyne, Afmadow, Baardheere, Gaalkacyo, Buur Hakaba, and Garoowe districts
