Key Highlights during epidemiological week 25
• During epi-week 25, a total of 378 (92.4%) out of 409 health facilities submitted their weekly surveillance reports, which is above the expected rate of reporting.
• A total of 3,979 suspected epidemic alerts were reported from 378 health facilities in DHIS2. Among those reported were 470 suspected cases of AWD/cholera, measles (324), diphtheria (7), SARI (1,067), Meningitis (18), whooping cough (69), typhoid (515), ILI (1,174), neonatal tetanus (5), acute jaundice (7), AEFI (11) and bloody diarrhea/shigellosis (311).
• During Epi week 25, both national and state public health laboratories confirmed 121 alerts of which 5 AWD/cholera cases were positive and 86 of malaria cases were confirmed with RDT and microscopy. Most of the specimens underwent testing at the laboratories located in Puntland, Hirshabelle, Banadir Regional, Southwest, and Jubaland State within Somalia.
• Currently, there are four active outbreaks in the country, and they are AWD/cholera, measles, dengue fever and diphtheria.
