Recovery Action Plan for Rendova Earthquake & Tsunami, January 2010

Two earthquakes (6.5 and 7.2) struck near Rendova and Tetepare Islands some 88km SSE of Gizo, in Western Province on Monday 4th January 2010. Significant impacts were localised around the Southern half of Rendova Island. The village of Retavo was destroyed by a tsunami wave of 4.5 ‐ 5m with a run up of 200 ‐ 300m resulting in the loss of 6 households affecting 31 people. Nine other villages were impacted by the earthquake affecting a further 555 households. In addition major landslides had affected the gardens and livelihoods of the 561 affected households. Recovery Action Plan was formed for the response to the communities of Rendova
