Executive summary
Slovakia is hosting over 109,000 people displaced from Ukraine, many of whom are rebuilding their lives and intend to stay for the foreseeable future. Labour market access is a crucial component of effective integration: the displaced population should be supported to find safe employment, in line with their skills and preferences, that enables them to become economically secure and less reliant on humanitarian and government support. Employment support was reported as the second priority need among displaced people in Slovakia in August 2023.
The Slovak Red Cross has been supporting the displaced population since the start of the population movement, through Humanitarian Service Points (HSPs) providing a wide range of services. This labour market and employability assessment was commissioned by the Slovak Red Cross and IFRC, to better understand the experiences of people displaced from Ukraine and other refugees in obtaining employment in Slovakia, the opportunities, and barriers, and to inform the design of interventions to assist these groups to find suitable employment.
