Highlights
• Comparing the year-on-year depreciation of the Leones against the United States Dollar remains relatively stable from SLE 22.61 in March 2024 to SLE 22.66 in March 2025.
• The national headline inflation came down to 10.71 percent in March 2025 from 41.65 in March 2024 and food inflation came down to 10.27 percent in March 2025 from 42.10 percent in March 2024.
• The prices of a kilogram of imported and local rice reduced from SLE 21.7 and SLE 23.3 in March 2024 to SLE 20.1 and SLE 22.5 in March 2025 recording a year-on-year reduction of 7 percent and 4 percent respectively.
• The purchasing power of the average Sierra Leonean has also improved due to the reduction in prices of key staple. As of March 2025, a monthly minimum labor wage could purchase around 40 kg of imported rice, compared to 35 kg during the same period in 2024. This is a much-welcomed improvement for vulnerable households.
