Official Press Statement for immediate release

5 December, 2000. Sierra Leone. We have recently been advised by General Issa Sesay, Interim Leader of the RUFP that events of the past few weeks have resulted in 'mixed signals' being sent out all around. We have been ordered, further, that owing to these aforesaid 'mixed signals', the RUFP position be restated with respect to the matter of restarting the Lome Peace Agreement. Accordingly, interested parties are advised to refer to RUFP Official Press Statements, dated 6 November and 13 November, 2000.

It has been and continues to be the official position of the RUFP that the Lome Peace Agreement be honored by the British/Kabbah government in all of its sections. Lome did not anticipate that the British/Kabbah government would seize the entire RUFP political party and place almost all in jail. Therefore, it is mandatory that the British/Kabbah government release of all RUFP/Sierra Leone political prisoners presently being held, including our Leader, Foday Saybana Sankoh. Following this development, the other party to Lome must agree to the re-establishment of suitable quarters from which RUFP partners are able to resume the administration of the four Lome-agreed senior government posts; and suitable quarters from which to conduct our political activities, -in addition to the disarmament of all combatants, deployment of foreign (peacekeeper) troops and other matters.

If and when the above cited actions are corrected and/or are taken in order of priority-listed above- the present 'Cease Fire' will automatically terminate if such corrections/actions are accomplished in a reasonably short period of time from now, and the Lome Peace Agreement will have been deemed 'restarted'.

In the interim, negotiations for the purpose of implementing the above-listed terms of the Lome Peace Agreement, should continue and should be executed -via special courier if need be between the highest level of the British/Kabbah government and the highest level of the RUFP.

BY COMMAND OF GENERAL ISSA SESSAY.
