Chinese Government Provides One Million USD Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to Sierra Leone
When the devastating tragic mudslide and flooding hit Freetown on 14th August 2017, Sierra Leone underwent another heartbreaking disaster after the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease. The Chinese government has been following the disaster and relief actions closely and studied the way of providing emergency support to Sierra Leone. In the afternoon of August 16, WANG Xinmin, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Freetown, called upon H.E. President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and expressed that the Chinese government will provide USD $1 Million emergency disaster relief fund to the government of Sierra Leone.
Charge D’Affaires WANG Xinmin, on behalf of the Chinese government and people expresses deep condolences to the people who lost their lives and sympathies to those affected by the disaster as well as the bereaved family members. He further expressed Chinese government’s commitment to stand together with Sierra Leone as the country goes all out to carry out rescue measures after the disaster.
Receiving the kind information of the Chinese government emergency disaster relief fund, H.E. President Koroma thanked the Chinese government for their support in time of grief and sorrow. He ensured that this fund would be properly used to assist the people affected by the disaster. He noted that, he was not surprise for such good-will gesture from the Chinese government and people because they are always one of the first to support Sierra Leone in times of difficult moment.
H.E. President Koroma recalled that in the early 2014 when the country was hit by Ebola outbreak, that later devastated Sierra Leone, China was the first country to send in support to fight the virus together with Sierra Leone.
