State of emergency in territory of Serbia declared

Belgrade, 10 March 2016 – At the proposal of the national Crisis Response Team, the Serbian government has declared a state of emergency in the territory of Serbia as a preventive measure that will facilitate and speed up the functioning of all bodies of the Republic of Serbia in the protection of lives and safety of citizens and goods, and in the clean-up of consequences of floods.

The Serbian government will hold daily meetings of the Crisis Response Team, follow the situation on the ground continuously and inform citizens.

The migrant crisis is making the whole situation even more difficult, which is why the Serbian Army will assist the police in border control in the days to come.

The Serbian government urges all citizens to respect its decisions and to do everything to avert even greater damage during the rainy period that will last until 15 March.
