Belgrade, June 17, 2005 - Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija, Kai Eide.

Kostunica said that it is necessary to start looking at things in Kosovo-Metohija in a realistic manner and he pointed out that the Serbian side is ready to cooperate and to help Eide in doing this important job.
Kostunica stressed that when it comes to demands for the independence of Kosovo-Metohija by ethnic-Albanian politicians in Pristina, it is necessary for the international community to react and to apply equal mechanisms as in other areas in the region.
The Prime Minister also pointed to numerous problems facing the Serb population in Kosovo-Metohija and he stressed the need for a different solution to their institutional status.
