Presidency statement on the second round of local elections in Kosovo

The Presidency of the European Union welcomes that local elections have been conducted in an orderly manner and with participation of all communities in Kosovo. This marks important progress for the further consolidation of a democratic and multi-ethnic society in accordance with European standards.

The Presidency takes note of the effectiveness of the Central Elections Commission (CEC) and trusts it will continue its investigation of reported shortcomings. The Elections Complaints and Appeals Commission (ECAC) has an important role to play in handling complaints in line with the established mechanisms.

The Presidency commends ENEMO (European Network of Election Monitoring Organisations) for monitoring the election process in Kosovo and notes its observations concerning slight improvements and challenges ahead.
