Kosovo: SRSG on yesterday's meeting in Zvecan

Referring to the meeting in Zvecan yesterday, which announced the establishment of a Serb union, the SRSG Michael Steiner said:
"This is an attempt to establish a new parallel structure, based on mono-ethnicity, directly against the multi-ethnic concept for Kosovo agreed by the international community.

It has no legal status and its declared intentions run counter to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999) and the Constitutional Framework for Kosovo.

Furthermore, it undermines the legitimate interest of the Serb community in Kosovo.

It is an act of self-isolation. It runs directly counter to the well-established international consensus.

Any attempt to assume executive functions will be sanctioned."
