Italian Infantry Enroute to Mitrovica

The main body of the Italian peacekeeping troops from the San Marco Battalion is moving from Skopje to Mitrovica today to take up their positions as part of the KFOR French-led Multinational Brigade North.

Land Mines

Yesterday afternoon, KFOR German soldiers discovered several anti-personnel mines along a road near Dragatina, some five kilometres north east of Suva Reka. KFOR explosive ordnance experts uncovered the dangerous devices and disposed of them.

Anyone coming across landmines must report their find to the nearest KFOR or UNMIK police unit so that the area can be properly marked and the destructive devices destroyed.

CIMIC - Civil Military Cooperation Issues

The KFOR CIMIC teams are participating in numerous projects of humanitarian interest across Kosovo.

In MNB West, CIMIC officers are helping the municipality of Klina to find a proper garbage collection site. KFOR military engineers used their vehicles and equipment to deliver two heavy generators for an ElectroKosova project in Dakovica. MNB (W) peacekeepers also delivered 19,000 litres of drinking water to communities in Banja and the hospital in Pec.

In MNB Centre, Canadian and Swedish CIMIC officers are managing a plan for youth and children's activities in the community of Ajvalija. And Brigade Centre, KFOR officers are coordinating the transport of vital electrical components to the Badri coal mine and, as well, are managing the plans to deliver the new conveyer belt that will bring coal from the mine to the Kosovo B power plant.

Exercise Dynamic Response Update

Strategic Reserve Force (SRF) continues their maneuvers alongside KFOR troops with their reconnaissance and security tasks.

The Polish mechanized infantry battalion together with the Romanian Infantry is securing the route between Prizren and Morina border crossing.

The Netherlands 1st Battalion Royal Marines Corps is located at Kacanic and is securing the route between FYROM border and Pristina.

The US 24 Marine Expeditionary Unit is securing the route between Pristina and Podujevo. The unit is also carrying out a joint operation with the British 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The operations consist of joint patrols, vehicle checkpoints and other tasks in a village north of Pristina.

The Argentinean Paratrooper Platoon is securing the route between Pristina and Mitrovica.

Events and Incidents During the Past 24 Hours

Searches and Weapons Confiscations

Yesterday morning in Dulje (MNB South), KFOR troops confiscated two AK-47 rifles, two pistols and a large quantity of ammunition.

Yesterday afternoon in MNB East, an Albanian man voluntarily surrendered an assault rifle to KFOR troops and UNMIK police.

Illegal Border Crossings

Yesterday evening in Krusevo (MNB South), a KFOR patrol detained two Kosovo-Albanian men for illegally crossing the border with Albania and handed them over to UNMIK police.

Yesterday afternoon, a KFOR helicopter crew in MNB South observed a man and three mules hiking over the hills towards Albania. A smuggling search team has been tasked to search for him.
