KFOR Press Update: 02 Apr 2000

Pristina, 02 April 2000
by Lt.-Cdr. Philip Anido, KFOR Spokesperson

Exercise Dynamic Response 2000

Following yesterday's tactical training activity, US and Dutch Marines, Argentinean paratroopers, and Polish and Romanian infantry are today continuing to consolidate their defensive positions.

In his comments, the Commander of KFOR, General Dr. Klaus Reinhardt, praised the professionalism of the Strategic Reserve Forces. "These are our reserves and I am highly impressed with the efficiency with which they have deployed into Kosovo from sea, road and rail," he says. "These troops have linked up with our KFOR units and now have a very good understanding of our duties and the environment in which we operate."

Mine Awareness

The following statement by the UN mine action experts and KFOR serves as a valuable reminder of the dangers of land mines:

The threat of mines and unexploded objects is a major concern for everyone. Drivers are cautioned not to drive off the hard road surface and onto the roadside verges. Gravel roads and roads not traveled by KFOR must also be used with caution.

Anyone finding a mine or dangerous looking object must leave it in place and advise the nearest KFOR patrol immediately of its exact location. EOD - explosive ordnance experts - will disable and dispose of the device.

Tragic Drowning of Child

On Friday, citizens from the village of Viljance called on KFOR troops to assist in finding a four-year old child who was last seen playing near the Crvena River. Tragically his body was found in the river not far from the village.
