On Saturday, May 17, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 10 million yen (Tents, sleeping pads, etc.) to the Republic of Serbia, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Republic of Serbia following serious damage from the floods in the country.

Western and Central Serbia has been suffering from floods caused by heavy rain from May 12 to 14. The local authorities and media reported, as of 5 pm [Japan time], May 17, 5 people were dead or missing and approximately 15,200 people took refuge from floods.

The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and the Republic of Serbia.
