Imposed solution for Kosovo-Metohija unacceptable for Serbia, Russia

Belgrade, June 22, 2007 - Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic and Russian Minister of Emergencies and Calamity Relief Sergei Shoigu agreed today that an imposed solution to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija is unacceptable and the real solution must be sought within UN institutions and international law.

Jeremic stressed that Serbia rejects any imposed solution for the province's status and reiterated that Serbia asks for new talks and believes in the possibility to find compromise, for which it has Russia's support.

Shoigu stressed that Russia's stance is clear and unaltered and recalled that President Vladimir Putin reiterated it on several occasions, the last one being at the summit in St Petersburg, and pointed out that the future status of Kosovo-Metohija is an issue which must be resolved through direct talks of the two sides.
