Government sets up Office for assistance, rehabilitation of flooded areas

Belgrade, 22 May 2014 – The Serbian government adopted at its session today the Decree on establishing the Office for assistance and rehabilitation of flooded areas, which will coordinate the reception and distribution of the entire humanitarian and other aid sent to the Serbian government for flood relief.

The office will determine criteria and methods of distribution of aid and will coordinate the assessment and rehabilitation plan of the damage caused.

The office will coordinate the cooperation of all state bodies, public enterprises and institutions in the field of aid and reconstruction in flooded areas.

The Serbian government passed a decision on allocating RSD 100 million from the state budget for the repair of the damage caused by floods.

The decision was also adopted to cede to the Red Cross of Serbia, without compensation, the goods worth approximately RSD 5 million which will be distributed to households affected by the floods.

The government also adopted the Decree on the terms and conditions for attracting foreign direct investment, which creates favourable conditions for investment in Serbia. The implementation of measures from this decree shall accelerate economic growth, increase employment rate and speed up infrastructure development in Serbia.
