Further to the Ministry of Health Measles Epidemic Update released on the 21 October 2019:
Following is an update of the figures since the Ministry of Health report dated the 21 October: 44 New suspected cases were reported to surveillance unit since the last update.
Majority of these new reported suspected measles cases being on Upolu island.
This brings the total number of reported suspected measles cases as of the 22 October to a total of 213 suspected for Measles. Out of the 44 new suspect cases reported 7 (16%) were admitted to hospital.
New Laboratory confirmed cases received yesterday afternoon since the 21 October is 8 bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases to 15 confirmed cases.
The majority of people affected remains children below 10 years of age as well as those in the age bracket, 20 to 30 years of age.
The Ministry of Health continues to encourage the public to get their measles vaccinations if they have not been vaccinated against measles or have not previously contacted measles.
The Ministry will advise of the laboratory results are received for the suspected measles related death reported earlier.

The Malietoa Tanumafili 11 Hospital (MT11H) on Savaii. The Immunization clinic is located at the MT2H emergency department.
