OVERVIEW

Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 4 hurricane on record and later intensifying to a Category 5, struck Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on July 1, 2024. This powerful storm caused widespread devastation across the islands, particularly impacting the Grenadine islands. The hurricane's catastrophic winds, reaching up to 195 km/h (120 mph), left over 40,000 people estimated to be affected, with significant infrastructure damage and the loss of essential services such as water and electricity. Health facilities in Canouan, Mayreau, Ashton, and Clifton were forced to close due to the extensive damage, exacerbating the challenges faced by the affected populations. As a result, thousands of people were displaced and required urgent emergency shelter and assistance. The severe impact on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines underscored the critical need for immediate humanitarian aid and long-term recovery efforts to rebuild infrastructure and support the affected communities.
