Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The UN World
Food Programme (WFP) has signed a memorandum of understanding to distribute
1,493 tonnes of food supplies, worth $735,000 to 43,379 provisionally released
Rwandan prisoners, who are residing in 22 camps.
The prisoners were released last month
and are undergoing a two-month rehabilitation programme.
WFP resident representative in Rwanda, David Stephenson, and the executive secretary of the national commission for unity and reconciliation in Rwanda, Fatuma Ndangiza, signed the document under which beneficiaries will receive a daily ration of beans, maize, cooking oil, salt and sugar.
Stephenson said WFP was making the gesture in support of the government's national reconciliation efforts and the peace process in Rwanda.
