Children and adolescents in Rwanda face significant risks and vulnerabilities because of HIV/AIDS and its socio-economic effects. USAID Igire Gimbuka (meaning ‘be self-resilient and mature’ in Kinyarwanda) works to reduce vulnerability, incidence of HIV and gender-based violence among orphans and vulnerable children and their families.
The activity focuses on facilitating inclusive access to health, offers HIV and economic strengthening services, including gender-based violence services both at community and health facility levels.
The package of services includes HIV prevention, linkage to HIV testing, support for HIV treatment adherence, violence prevention and response, educational subsidies and support, and economic strengthening.
OBJECTIVES
- Sustain the adoption of essential safe practices by families and communities for the most vulnerable children and youth,
- Improve health and prospects for adolescents and youth at-risk of HIV or violence,
- Strengthen prevention and response to violence against children and youth, and
- Improve community/facility level coordination and delivery of quality health and social services for orphans and vulnerable children.
