Japan’s ambassador pledges to strength ties with Rwanda in Disaster and Refugees Management

The ambassador of Japan to Rwanda TAKAYUKI MIYASHITA reaffirmed the commitment of his country to continue to support Rwanda in the areas of Refugees and Disaster Management. He made the note on Monday July, 25 as he was received, in a courtesy call, by Minister Mukantabana Seraphine.

Welcoming the newly appointed Japanese ambassador to Rwanda, Minister Mukantabana acknowledged the contribution that the government of Japan has been providing through various humanitarian agencies to support Rwanda to deal with the problems related to refugees and to Disasters.

“I take this opportunity to acknowledge the good collaboration we had with your predecessors and to salute the support that the Japan Government has been providing to us to implement various projects that yielded tangible results.” Said Minister Mukantabana.

From 2010 to 2013, the Japanese government has funded the project of “Enhancing Socio-economic Reintegration of Rwandan returnees and other vulnerable groups” implemented jointly by MIDIMAR na in collaboration with the IOM, Over 13000 beneficiaries including in majority the Rwandan returnees were supported through this project in the areas of vocational skills training, shelter and livestock.

Currently, under the support Japan, MIDIMAR implementing another project dubbed: “Preparedness for Resilient Recovery” which consists of establishing model villages resilient to Disasters”.

“The positive impact of the above mentioned projects is worthy to be noted.” Stressed Minister Mukantabana.

Ambassador TAKAYUIKI pledged continued support to back the efforts of the Government of Rwanda to respond to refugees’ issues and to mitigate natural disasters.

“We have been contributing to the refugee’s response through UNHCR especially to support in responding the influx of Burundian refugees to Rwanda; “In the other hand, our country has enough expertise in dealing we natural disasters, which can also help Rwanda to cope with disasters. So I expect that in the coming future, we shall have a lot to do with this Ministry” said ambassador TAKAYUIKI.

TAKAYUKI MIYASHITA presented his credentials as new ambassador to Rwanda recently in July 2016. His courtesy visit to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, was aligned with his agenda to meet with heads of various government institutions in order to revitalize existing cooperation between Rwanda and the Government of Japan.
