The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is to co-operate with Russia's Ministry of Education on the reconstruction of the education system in Chechnya. A memorandum to this effect will be signed in Paris on March 14, an Education Ministry spokesperson told RIA Novosti.
The spokesperson said the memorandum included 18 projects, for three of which funding to the tune of $170,000 had already been earmarked. These involve provision of necessary fittings for school canteens in Chechnya, purchase of healthy lifestyle textbooks and teaching aids for local schools, and mounting a campaign designed for psychological rehabilitation of schoolchildren. Money for the projects will be placed into the accounts of UNESCO's Moscow office. (RIA Novosti)
