Russian Emergencies Ministry starts recovery operations in flood-free areas

The current situation in the emergency area in Amur Region has been discussed at the meeting of the working group of the Governmental Commission at the National Crisis Management Center.

In all,123 settlements, 6,266 houses populated by 33,097 people, 191 sections of local roads and 69 road bridges remain flooded in 25 municipalities of the Far Eastern Federal District. 22,477 people were evacuated, including 7,022 children. 121 temporary shelters were set up, 54 of them are accommodating 2,762 people, including 1,096 children.

The most difficult situation remains in Khabarovsk Territory. Rise of water has slowed down, temporary dikes are being built and other emergency recovery operations are carried out. A mobile hospital and specialists of All-Russian Disaster Medicine Center Zashchita as well as 100 rescuers from the Urals Regional Center with all necessary equipment and boats are planned to be sent to help the personnel at the emergency scene.

Water is going down in Amur Region, cleaning and emergency recovery operations are under way in areas where water has gone away. Payouts are being effected to the people. At the moment 82% of the affected have received a lump-sum payment of 10,000 rubles, 77% have received a compensation for partially lost property – 50,000 rubles. The documents on material assistance are being kept made.

Water level practically has not gone up in Jewish Autonomous Region. Preparation for recovery operations is underway.

Though the situation is difficult it is under control. measures are planned to prepared the affected areas for winter.

According to the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring the maximal water level in the Amur of 780-830 cm is possible only in the worst situation. At present the forecast water level is 750-780 cm.
