In the period between 27 and 31 May 2014, due to heavy rains the levels of water rose above the critical point in the rivers of the Republic of Altai, Tuva, Khakassia and Altai Krai. As of 9 June 1 407 homes, inhabited by 5 252 people, remain flooded in 16 settlements in 8 municipalities.

According to the Russian Meteorological Service, water levels will start to decrease today in the flooded parts of the city of Barnaul.
