January 21, the representatives of Human Rights organizations - "Memorial" and Human Rights Watch and the public association "Mothers of Chechnya" - all met with the Mission of the European Council's Parliamentary Assembly. "Memorial" was represented by Svetlana Gannushkina, Dmitry Grushkin and Alexander Cherkasov. There was a two-hour conversation before the flight of Euro parliament's members to the Northern Caucasus. The main question specially interested Lord Judd, the Head of the Mission and concerned the attitude of the human rights defenders to the referendum in the Chechen Republic, planned for March 23. Participants were in unanimous agreement about the impossibility to conduct any referendum under the conditions of armed conflicts, etc.
