Visit of Mr. Abdel Salam Elauri,
IR-USA
In December 2003, IR office in the Northern Caucasus received a guest from IR fundraising office in the USA. This is the second time Mr. Elauri visiting IR Russian office - his first visit took place in February 2001, when he came to take part in the
implementation of IR Qurbani programme in the specially designated camps in Ingoushetia.
During his stay this year Mr. Elauri visited IR offices in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria and Nazran, Ingoushetia.
In Ingoushetia he also visited 3 poor families in the tented camp "Sputnik". One of the families lives all in one tent -- a mother and her 8 children. Another family with 6 children lost their mother during the military actions in Chechnya, so now they are residing in the camp "Alina" with their father. All three of the families, as well as others occupying the camp, receive food aid from IR.
Mr. Elauri also travelled to Grozny, Chechnya, where he visited a hospital and some schools to monitor the condition of the facilities and assess the humanitarian needs in the region.

As the camp "Alina" was closed in December, IR had to close its clinic "Alina" that it had been running since 2001, so it now operates only one clinic in the camp "Sputnik", providing medical assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons from that camp.
In the month of December, the total number of diagnosed and treated diseases was 4 549, taking the overall number of patients to 3 122 IDPs.
IR Water-Sanitation Programme
After the closure of the camp "Alina", there is only one camp where IR provides with drinking water. Thus IR carried out daily delivery of 720 tons of fresh water to the camp. The water is delivered by one water tanker that ships 4 tons of water 3 times a day.
