September 3 - In the village of Gukhoi in the Itum-Kalinsky district of Chechnya one policeman was killed and several were wounded in a guerrilla attack on the house of the head of the local administration, and in gunfire at a school.

September 3 - A Presidential Lycée opened in Grozny. It will give children intensive instruction in four academic disciplines.

September 3 - A minute's silence was held throughout Russia for the victims of the Beslan hostage crisis.

September 3 - Guerrillas operating in Ingushetia claimed responsibility for a series of attacks against government forces and other incidents that took place in the republic this past summer, according to a statement by them published on the pro-guerrilla website Daymohk.

September 4 - Dokka Umarov, President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, dismissed the chairman of the Ichkerian Supreme Sharia Court, Mansur Yovmirzayev, appointing Anzor Astemirov acting chairman.

September 5 - Two police officers from the republic of Buryatia were killed in Chechnya's Naursky district.

September 5 - Gas supplies to four villages in Kabardino-Balkaria were cut off by a triple pipeline explosion near the town of Elbrus in the mountainous district of Elbrussky.

September 5 - Karachayevo-Cherkessian guerrilla commander Rustam Ionov (aka Abubakar) and his companion Elvira Kitova (aka Amina) were killed on the border between Georgia and the Karachayevo-Cherkessian Republic, Russian media reported, referring to the Federal Security Service (FSB).

September 6 - Representatives of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and Chechen diaspora in European countries held a conference in the Norwegian capital Oslo.

September 7 - Unknown perpetrators shot dead Natalya Mudarova, head doctor of the blood transfusion centre of the republican hospital in Ingushetia's Nazran.

September 8 - Chechen guerrilla Musa Mutiyev was killed in Grozny.

September 8 - Ingushetian MPs expressed full support for President Murat Zyazikov and condemned a "propaganda campaign" that has allegedly been waged against the republic in recent weeks, the government website Ingushetia.ru reported.

September 9 - A Chechen serviceman was killed on the outskirts of the village of Pervomaiskoye in Chechnya's Groznensky district when an exchange of fire broke out during the inspection of a vehicle by soldiers of the "Zapad" battalion. The vehicle's driver, who put up armed resistance, also died in the incident, while his passenger, also a guerrilla, managed to escape.

September 9 - Two guerrillas and one Russian serviceman were killed when guerrillas attacked the barracks of a federal battalion in the Ingushetian town of Malgobek.
