Humanitarian Response and Advocacy

UNHCR Romania’s cash assistance programme will be suspended in the coming days due to a lack of funding. The suspension particularly affects the support for 2,600 persons with specific needs within the refugee community. This impending closure has led to a noticeable increase in calls to the UNHCR Helpline, as refugees seek information and express concern about the discontinuation of financial aid, highlighting the persistent and urgent needs among the most vulnerable refugees. According to the most recent post-distribution monitoring, cash assistance is used by vulnerable refugees from Ukraine to cover food, medical and rent expenses.
