From 28 June to 5 July, the Regional Refugee Coordinator of the US Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration for Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and the South Caucasus, Ms. Robyn Prinz visited UNHCR’s activities in Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj, Timisoara, and Constanta. During the mission, she met with refugees, local authorities, and partners providing various services to refugees. The partners shared the needs and challenges and highlighted the importance of US contributions to ensure a sustainable response. On 3 July, at the initiative of H.E. Willemijn van Haaften, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, UNHCR Representative Mr. Pablo Zapata participated in an ambassadorial briefing on the humanitarian response for the refugees from Ukraine in Romania and shared an overview of current implementation of the Refugee Response Plan and challenges. The event was attended by 25 participants including 17 embassies. Mrs. Victoria Stoiciu, State Counsellor, Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Government of Romania briefed the participants on the new Emergency Ordinance. Dr. Raed Arafat, State Secretary, Head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) outlined the role of the DSU in supporting refugees towards inclusion.
