On 12 June, UNHCR published its two flagship reports, the Global Trends and the Global Report. These reports present a global picture of crises that continue to erupt and evolve, with global forced displacement estimated at 123.2 million people at the end of 2024, and the population that UNHCR itself is mandated to protect and assist rising to 129.9 million. Despite growing humanitarian needs and budgetary constraints, UNHCR continued its work to protect, assist, empower, and include forcibly displaced and stateless people. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said: “We live in a time of profound instability in international relations, where modern warfare creates a fragile and disturbing landscape marked by acute human suffering. We must redouble our efforts to build peace and find durable solutions for refugees and all those forced to flee their homes.”
