Romania: The Government awaits the evaluation of the European Commission on the application for support to rebuild the Banat areas affected by the floods from April - May 2005

On June 23rd 2005, the Executive submitted an application to access the Solidaritatea Fund. The Romanian authorities evaluated the damage caused by calamities, and their total value exceeded 488 million EUR.

According to the procedures in force, the European Commission is to respond to Romania's application in a period comprised between 3 and 6 months.

The European Commission does not cover the damage caused in the private field, but only a percentage of the damage produced in the public field. The quantum of the compensations will be communicated to Romania further to the evaluation of the European Commission.

Romania cannot submit a new application for support to the European Commission that would include the damage occurred lately.
