CHF 178,494 (USD 168,817or EUR 133,964) has been allocated from the IFRC's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the National Society in delivering immediate assistance to some 12,000 beneficiaries and to replenish emergency stocks. Unearmarked funds to repay DREF are encouraged.

Summary: Heavy rains which began on 23 June have caused floods in the north-east and north of Romania flooding and damaging 4,384 households and affecting more than 12,237 people. The houses are still under water according to latest assessments and over 12,000 people had to be evacuated.

The Romania Red Cross will provide basic non-food items to 350 families amounting to some 1,200 people, and provide adequate sanitation and drinking water to another 11,000 people.

This operation is expected to be implemented over four months, and will therefore be completed by 8 November 2010; a Final Report will be made available three months after the end of the operation (by February 2011).
