South Korea - Wildfire (JRC GWIS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 29 April 2025)

  • A wildfire has been burning across south-eastern South Korea, in particular in the area of Daegu city since the afternoon (UTC) of 27 April, causing population evacuations and damage. According to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the total burnt area reached over 430 ha, and the wildfire are currently not fully contained.
  • Media report, as of 29 April, more than 5,600 evacuated people, of whom over 2,200 evacuated to a number of shelters across the area of Daegu city. In addition, media also report some closed roads across the affected area.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to JRC GWIS, the fire danger forecast is from moderate to high across most of South Korea.
