Puerto Rico (update)
On 8 January 2020 the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) updated its report regarding the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday. To date, 300,000 people (25% of customers) were left without water due to lack of power. In terms of health and medical information, 3 dialysis units in Ponce city, one in Yauco, and one in Lares municipalities were closed (staff currently evacuated). The Region Hospitals: Arecibo, Caguas, Fajardo, Mayaguez, and Ponce are using generator power. Evacuation of patients was carried out at the Hospital Damas (183) in Ponce, Hospital Metropollitano Dr. Pila (107) in Ponce, and Hospital Pavia (84) in Yauco. Currently, there are 17 shelters open with 813 occupants. The report is available in English at: FEMA.
On 8 January 2020, the Paraguay National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) reported heavy rain affecting several neighborhoods is Asuncion City: Tablada Nueva, Sajonia, Varadero, Santa Ana, and Cateura. In addition, floods affected 188 families in Asuncion. The report is available in Spanish at: SEN.
