The flooding which struck vast areas in
Central Europe last summer continue to affect thousands of vulnerable families.
Estimates in Poland indicate that assistance to flood victims will be necessary
for the next 2-3 years, and in the case of the most vulnerable social groups,
for up to 10 years.
Last week, the German Red Cross hosted
a meeting in Jonsdorf, in southeastern Germany, which brought together
representatives from the Polish, Czech, Slovak and German Red Cross Societies
to carry out a flood operation review.
Discussions focused on National Society evaluations carried out earlier this year and on preparing 2 to 3-year Disaster Preparedness (DP) plans.
