• Since the onslaught of severe tropical storm Kristine in late October, WFP has been augmenting the Government’s ongoing typhoon response through assessments, logistics and telecommunications support and cash assistance.
• Together with the Government, WFP conducted rapid damage assessments in Bicol, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon. The findings have informed the planned scale-up of WFP’s cash assistance.
• To date, WFP has provided cash transfers to over 72,000 people in the provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur in Bicol Region. With additional resources from donors, cash operations are being expanded to meet the urgent food needs of communities in an additional five Luzon provinces adversely impacted by the recent storms.
• The Inter-agency Cluster Coordination Group recommended the revision of the Humanitarian Needs and Priorities document, to scale up assistance to account for the needs of those affected by STY Ofel and Pepito. The proposed revision will aim to support about 535,000 people in Aurora, Catanduanes, Isabela, and Sorsogon, and expand ongoing response operations in Albay, Cagayan, and Camarines Sur, for six months.
