Highlights

• WFP has been augmenting the ongoing government-led typhoon response through logistics and telecommunications support, assessments, cash assistance, and technical assistance.

• WFP has reached over 72,000 people to date with cash transfers and is scaling up to meet additional needs based on additional resources provided by partners.

• To identify the needs of communities affected by STY Pepito, WFP supported the Government in conducting rapid damage assessments in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the Bicol Region. Based on early findings of the assessment and coordination efforts, WFP is expanding its cash assistance to other parts of Luzon more recently impacted by STY Ofel and STY Pepito.

• By allocating its Immediate Response Account (IRA), an internal emergency funding mechanism, WFP was able to swiftly respond at the sudden onset of successive typhoons. IRA ensured that the most vulnerable populations have been assisted within two weeks since STS Kristine hit, at a time when they needed it most.
