Highlights:

  • UNICEF, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, provided 5,751 families in Catanduanes (Region V) with emergency cash assistance to support their recovery. The families are beneficiaries of the government's flagship social protection mechanism whose houses were partially damaged because of the latest super typhoon. They received the assistance directly in their bank accounts, giving them the flexibility to prioritize their needs according to what matters most to them and their children's well-being.
  • UNICEF is scaling up its response to identified child protection needs in Catanduanes. With its partner civil society organization, it will establish child-friendly spaces, build local capacity, set up feedback mechanism and strengthen local and inter-agency coordination to ensure children and other vulnerable groups are safe and protected.
  • Continuing to fill critical gaps in other disaster-affected areas, UNICEF has sent water and hygiene kits to Cebu province and is procuring nutrition commodities and other essential supplies to support regions experiencing supply shortages.
