Highlights

• UNICEF and other United Nations agencies completed multisectoral needs assessments in Catanduanes. Especially in the northern and eastern municipalities, people face heightened risks of disease, protection concerns and disrupted livelihoods. While markets have recovered and are open, people’s access and their purchasing power are limited. Many schools are damaged, disrupting children’s learning, and health services are overwhelmed. The situation underscores the need for coordinated assistance to support local government efforts, especially for isolated and vulnerable communities.

• Emergency cash assistance is being prepared for some 5,600 households in Catanduanes. In coordination with the government and other partners, UNICEF will support families with partially and totally damaged houses in Baras, Bato, San Andres, Virac and Panganiban. It will channel this assistance through the government’s social protection programme. UNICEF has also donated water and hygiene kits to the provincial government.

• UNICEF continues to address gaps in other disaster-affected areas. It has sent nutrition supplies to Cebu province, which was affected by a typhoon and a powerful earthquake, and water and hygiene kits to Davao Oriental, which was also hit by an earthquake.
