TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite, March 7 (PIA) – The City Government of Tagaytay in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) CALABARZON recently held the first supplemental immunization activity in Ayala Mall Serin here.
DOH Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo graced the event and praised the local government’s efforts to intensify the campaign against measles.
“This event will increase measles vaccination coverage and reduce missed opportunities for vaccination by proving more immunization sites for children. Vaccination posts in malls, schools, fast food chains, churches and even bus terminals are necessary so that parents living near these areas can bring their child for immunization,” Janairo said.
He appealed to the public who remain hesitant to have their children vaccinated and reiterated the importance of vaccines to protect their children from fatal diseases.
“Vaccination is a very important part of family and public health. It prevents the spread of contagious, dangerous, and even deadly diseases like measles, polio, mumps and chicken pox.”
Hundreds of residents of the city and from other neighboring towns together with their children participated in the immunization activity and availed of the free vaccination opportunity. One of the reasons, believed to be part of the public’s hesitancy, for the failure of parents to have their children vaccinated is due to their hectic schedule at work during weekdays.
Children participants were given anti-measles and OPV immunization vaccines and also free vitamins and free meals from Jollibee. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/with reports from DoH CALABARZON)
