Some 500 individuals from Mt. Province who were affected by Typhoon Egay last July were provided with Livelihood Settlement Grants (LSG) by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs Irene Dumlao said on Friday (December 22).
Asst. Sec. Dumlao, who is the agency’s data privacy officer and co-spokesperson, said each beneficiary received Php20,000 in livelihood grants during a series of payout activities conducted by the DSWD Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) from December 15 to 17 in different venues.
“The livelihood grant was given to assist the community in recovering their losses and to provide them with financial capital to start up with their livelihood,” Asst. Sec. Dumlao said.
According to the DSWD official, the beneficiaries of the LSG came from the seven municipalities in the province, including Bauko, Barlig, Besao, Bontoc, Paracelis, Sabangan, and Tadian.
“The beneficiaries were mostly farmers and micro-enterprise owners who were hardest hit by the typhoon and whose livelihood and employment were affected,” Asst. Sec. Dumlao pointed out.
The LSG was given to the beneficiaries through the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) aimed at providing additional capital for their existing business or putting up a new project according to their skills and experience. #
