Red Cross mobilized in Philippines earthquake

The Philippine National Red Cross Disaster Management Services has mobilized all chapters in areas hit by an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale on March 6, to do an immediate needs assessment, and a relief distribution if required. Meanwhile, all members of the national and local level Disaster Response Teams have been put on standby in case of after-shocks.
The earthquake's epicentre was 75 miles west of General Santos on Mindanao and out at sea. Between 4,000 to 5,000 people have been evacuated to higher ground as a precautionary measure in case of a tidal wave. An estimated 15 people have been killed with four provinces affected by the tremor. Some areas have been cut off by landslides and others such as General Santos are suffering powercuts and interrupted water supplies.
