Qatar Red Crescent/Philippine Red Cross joint relief operation in CDO and Iligan

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) will distribute food, non-food items and hygiene kits on Friday (January 13, 2012) to the affected families of typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

Earlier this week, Qatar Red Crescent and PRC, headed by its Chairman Richard Gordon, conducted a detailed assessment in the affected areas in CDO and Iligan to identify further needs of the affected families.

Qatar Red Crescent has donated 60,000 USD (Php 2.6 million) to provide assistance to 1,000 families in CDO and Iligan still reeling from the aftermath of the disaster

QRC is represented by its Disaster Management Head Dr. Amer Melhem, Projects and Events Coordinator Ms. Jassie Gumabon and Head of Mission to the Philippines Mr. Rashed Al-Muhanadi.

Each family beneficiary will receive basic non-food items such as mosquito nets, blankets, plastic mats and a water container.

Beneficiaries will also receive PRC standard hygiene kit consisting of toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, bath soap, face towel, plastic comb, cotton buds, sanitary napkin, nail cutter, detergent soap, disposal razor and rolls toilet paper.

In addition, the families will also receive food ration good for 2 days comprising of 5 kilos of rice, 4 tins of canned goods and 4 packs of noodles.

Gordon thanked QRC and other national societies for their strong support to the Philippine Red Cross enabling it to give immediate relief assistance to the typhoon-affected families.
