As of 27 April at 20.36 UTC (28 April at 4.36 local time), a phreatic eruption occurred at Mount Bulusan located in the Sorsogon province, Bicol Region, southern Luzon Island, central Philippines. The eruption produced a plume that reached up to 4,500 m above the crater, dispersing ash to the west and southwest. Pyroclastic flow occurred and descended the southwestern slopes within approximately 3 km from the summit. Ashfall was reported across the Sorsogon province.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) places the volcano under Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest).
The Disaster Response Operations Management Information Center (DROMIC) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reports, as of 29 April, 61 evacuated people in two shelters across the Sorsogon province and a total of more than 78,150 affected people across the area.
The entry into the 4 km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is currently strictly prohibited, as issued by the local authorities.
