On 9 December at 7.03 UTC, Kanlaon volcano, located on Negros Island, increased its activity with an explosion that produced a plume 3 km high above the summit of the crater and pyroclastic flows descended the slopes on the southeastern flanks of the volcano.
According to the national authorities, more than 6,500 have been displaced, most of them have been evacuated in 13 evacuation centres located in the Western and Central Visayas region.
As of 10 December, at 2.00 UTC, the alert level was raised from 2 (increasing unrest) to 3 (magmatic unrest). All local government units are advised to evacuate people living in the 6 km radius from the summit of the volcano.
