Philippines - Volcanic eruption (ADINet, media, PHIVOLCS) (ECHO Daily Flash of 7 January 2026)

  • On 1 and 6 January, magmatic eruption, ashfall, pyroclastic flow and rockfall events occurred at Mayon volcano located in Albay Province, Bicol Region, south-eastern Luzon Island.
  • The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) places the volcano under Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest).
  • According to the Asean Disaster Information Network (ADINet), 3 515 people have been internally displaced in 13 evacuation centres. The entry into the 6 km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is currently strictly prohibited, as issued by the local authorities.
