The number of affected people continues to rise following the activity of Kanlaon Volcano, located on Negros Island in the Western Visayas region (central Philippines). In the past 24 hours, continuous degassing with occasional ash emissions drifting southwest and west-northwest has been recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), more than 20,000 people remain displaced. Of these, 8,338 are currently being accommodated in 22 evacuation centers. In total, 68,703 people have been affected across the Central and Western Visayas regions.
Alert Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest, remains in effect for the volcano.
