Philippines: Typhoon Reming appeal

Typhoon Reming hit Catanduanes on November 30, at midnight with sustained winds of 190 kph near the center and gusts of up to 225 kph, affecting the provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Marinduque, Mindoro, Batangas and Laguna.

Local PNRC chapters have started sending initial damage reports, with communications still to be established with some areas in Catanduanes and Sorsogon. More assessment of the damage from these provinces will be received when radio communication is reestablished with national headquarters.

Many parts of Albay have been covered by as much as 5 feet of water due to one broken dike. At least 100 deaths have so far been reported, with many more trapped by floods, landslides and mudslides.

As of the latest report, 6,955 families are reported affected in the 8 provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Laguna, Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental and Quezon.

The Philippine National Red Cross is operating its around the clock Operations Centre and has been monitoring the path of the typhoon from the moment tropical storm Reming entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Red Cross Disaster teams were deployed in critical areas to provide immediate relief and rescue operation.

With the enormous challenges ahead, we are indeed need of your support!

Food Items: rice, canned goods, bottled water and instant noodles

Sleeping Items: blankets, mats and mosquito nets

Household Items: plastic basin and plastic pail

Kitchen Items: plastic plates, spoon & fork, tumblers, plastic bowls and water container

Hygiene Items: bath soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, alcohol, nail cutter, cotton and towel

Shelter Materials: nipa hut, GI sheets, umbrella nails, wood saw, plywood, bamboo split, cocolumber and tarpaulin

Others: medicines, fuel, flash lights, batteries, water purifier, transportation and hauling services and manpower.
