Philippines: Typhoon Reming appeal
Local PNRC chapters have started sending initial damage reports, with communications still to be established with some areas in Catanduanes and Sorsogon. More assessment of the damage from these provinces will be received when radio communication is reestablished with national headquarters.
Many parts of Albay have been covered by as much as 5 feet of water due to one broken dike. At least 100 deaths have so far been reported, with many more trapped by floods, landslides and mudslides.
As of the latest report, 6,955 families are reported affected in the 8 provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Laguna, Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental and Quezon.
The Philippine National Red Cross is operating its around the clock Operations Centre and has been monitoring the path of the typhoon from the moment tropical storm Reming entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
