Typhoon Melor (known locally as Nona) made five landfalls over Northern Samar, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon and Oriental Mindoro provinces with a maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph on 14 and 15 December. The typhoon brought heavy to intense rainfall along its path as it crossed the islands in the Visayas and Luzon. Local authorities pre-emptively evacuated 743,000 people in Regions IV-A, IV-B, V and VIII, and are currently leading damage and needs assessments and relief operations in the affected areas.
